I love competing in the the Spa 6 hour classic race – starting in the Saturday afternoon and finishing well into the night held at Spa-Francorchamps Belgium, the venue is fantastic and the circuit is number one for most race car drivers and the GT40 is one of the most famous cars for endurance racing.

I teamed up with John Young and Andy Newell in our ex Alan Mann owned GT40 AMR003 we worked hard all year to improve our car and this was evident with a 5th place qualification time but unfortunately we were penalised with a 30 second grid penalty for a race-wear infringement so had to start 82nd place!

I started the race and managed to get us back up to 6th, after a perfectly timed pit stop John Young got us up to 3rd and I was dreaming of a podium place, again another perfectly timed pit stop Andy took over for the last two hours but as rain came in our two front spot lights blew out and Andy drove by the seat of his pants but just couldn’t keep up the pace and dropped to a respectable 6th place…all in all a great race.

We also competed in a Alan Mann Mustang in the Masters Touring Car one hour race and I led out for a short time before an oil leak from the rear axle put paid and we finished forth.

After the 10.00pm finish we always drive straight out the track to our favourite Pizza restaurant in Francorchamps in our race car for a few beers with the team…..great fun.
